Our History - A Second Generation Company

Mr. David Zelnick and his wife Helen Zelnick founded Zed Industries in 1969. David worked for US Rubber in the 1950's selling plastic film. To improve their sales, he built a small vacuum former out of a used freezer compressor, an oven element and miscellaneous parts he found at his home. He transported this unit around to prospective customers to educate and demonstrate thermoforming. The customers were more interested in the machine than in the plastic. Rather than staying in the film business, David originally partnered in a custom forming and machinery sales company. In 1955, he founded the Atlas Vac Machine Corporation and served as its President until 1964 and its General Manager until 1968. Both of these companies still exist today! David Zelnick currently serves as Zed Industries' Chairman of the Board and Helen serves as its Comptroller/Treasurer.

In November 2003, Mark Zelnick and Peter Zelnick purchased Zed Industries Inc., from their father. Mark Zelnick was appointed to the position of President and his brother Peter Zelnick to the position of CEO.

Mark started in the plastic industry when he worked the Plastics show in New York City for Atlas Vac Machine Company at the age of “6”. He attended the University of
Utah where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Materials Science Engineering and a Master’s of Science Degree in Metallurgical Engineering. After 5 years of postgraduate work in the metallurgical field, he returned to Zed to accept the position of Vice President of Production.

After working at Zed during his junior high and high school days, Peter attended the University of Arizona where he received Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. After 5 years of post graduate work as a manager of the non-metallic, insulation, adhesive and polymer laboratories at McDonald Douglas, he also returned to Zed to accept a position of Vice President of Sales and Marketing and material applications.
